Hi Nicola! It's great to have you for a Mamaview! Please tell us a little about yourself and what you do?
Hi, my name is Nicola and I am mum to Thomas aged 8. I run my own dog training business from home. Previously my business also incorporated a pet sitting and dog walking business but I am selling these off to give me time and space to expand my dog training!
At the moment I am working hard on understanding social media marketing, lists and automated emails and sales journeys! The business has made profit in the past but only the dog walking and pet sitting so now I have to make the dog training work for me!
I actually started out in Architecture, but fell in love with dog training just over 10 years ago when I adopted my first pup, black Labrador Joey!
We live in Glossop which is east of Manchester. We also have two cats, fish and two guinea pigs.
I am the eldest of 7 children, and have a half sister, a step brother and 3 step sisters!
I am passionate about our environment and love wildlife, art and music.
What advice would you give to your 21 year old self?
I would tell my 21 year old self to relax and enjoy myself, and to be confident and not to care what other people think. I would tell myself I was beautiful, wonderful and capable of amazing things! And that life is a wonderful gift and to enjoy every second of it.
Can you give us 3 tips for juggling motherhood, life and business?
My top tips for juggling and getting the balance right (which I don't always do!) are to have set times for working, and times where you switch off phones and all electronic devices.
To regularly get away from 'the office' (which may mean getting away from the house!).
Also not to worry about cleaning and cooking! You can't do everything!
Tell us something no one ever warned you about being a work at home mama!
That it is so important to have a work/home time divide.
What is the best thing about being a WAHM?
Being there for everything! Sports days, school plays, schoool holidays, watching my baby boy grow into a little man! And being able to walk my dog!
Can you discuss something you are working on right now to improve your work/life balance?
I am working on automating systems so that things can be working in the background while I have time off!
The best advice anyone ever gave you?
To have an office at home that I can shut the door when I'm off.
What WAHM has inspired you lately?
You! And JoJo Graham.
What are you reading right now?
I nearly always have a few books on the go! I'm reading Barracuda by Christos Tsolkias for fiction, then She Means Business (Carrie Green) and a whole bunch of dog books!
How do you practice regular self care?
I try to do yoga every single day and go kickboxing a couple of times a week! And I go to bed early!
