Hey Erin! Thankyou for being a part of the Mamaviews! I am excited to talk homeschool and fitness with you! Let's begin!
Tell us a little about your family and background as a stay at home mum!
God blessed me with the BEST husband. My perfect mate, his name is Wes and we've been married since June 2014. We have three girls Ellie (8), Adelynn (5) and Laylie (3). We live in OH, USA. I am a homeschooling mum who also runs an online fitness business.
I was a high school math teacher before I had kids. But I was teaching fitness classes on the side to keep me accountable to my own health and fitness. My boss at the gym asked if I heard about online fitness coaching. I hadn't and I was skeptical to be honest. We prayed about it a lot and I felt the Lord telling me to give it a shot. So I actually started online coaching when I was pregnant with our oldest. I started growing my business when she was about 3 months old. I just started with an hour a day while she napped.
I love it because it gave me some "adult" time, I was able to help others, especially moms and I felt lead by God to do this! Even during the first 2 years I'd pray a lot, "Are you sure you want me to do this?" Every time He affirmed, so here I am today!
In a nut shell…. I’m a math nerd who loves calculus, I love performing and being “in front” of people, I have a passion for health and fitness and helping others on their journey and hot fudge with chocolate ice cream and brownies are my guilty pleasure!
What advice would you give to your 21 year old self?
Read personal development books! Read The Compound Effect and The Slight Edge to start. From there, figure out what you’re passionate about, what your purpose is and live it without fear of what others will think.
Focus on being healthy, not skinny. When you focus on taking care of the inside the rest will take care of itself.
Can you give us 3 tips for juggling motherhood, life and business?
Schedule, schedule, schedule!
You have to have a plan for your life and time or it will run you. Lot’s of people talk about balance, but really, what is that?
I think you have to figure out what your purpose in life is and your mission, and base all of your decisions around that.
So for me, my family and homeschooling is first. So I schedule in our homeschooling time, then I schedule 3 hours of work time. Family time is dinner and bed time. I also get up before the kids in the morning to get my workout done.
Also the kids are each allowed one activity at a time.
It’s ok to say “no” when people ask you to do something! You don’t and can’t say yes to everything!
Tell us something no one ever warned you about being a work at home mama!
That there is still mom guilt! I thought working from home would take care of that. But they see me home and want me all day long. Not only do I need a break, because face it, being a mom is hard, but I do feel called to my work too.
What is the best thing about being a WAHM?
I get to be AT HOME with my kids. I’m there when they wake up, for meals, to play during the day and do school.
I work 3 hours during the day. If I want to get more done, then I do it after they go to bed.
Can you discuss something you are working on right now to improve your work/life balance?
Asking myself if I’m happy with the amount of time and attention I’ve given to my girls that day! And if not, what am I going to do to fix it tomorrow!
The best advice anyone ever gave you?
Put God in the center of everything - marriage, raising your kids, schooling, business, finances. It’s not always easy, and I’m definitely not perfect at it, but it’s the only thing in life that won’t change and you can be truly fulfilled!
What WAHM has inspired you lately?
WOW there are so many, how do I choose just one?
I’ll go with Kristy Richardson, of OnMyKidsPlate. She’s local to me, is just doing lots of personal development and it was great to connect with her, bounce ideas off of each other and learn where she’s at.
What are you reading right now?
The Power of the Praying Wife and Leadership 101 by John Maxwell
How do you practice regular self care?
I make my workouts and healthy eating a priority. I don’t like getting up early in the morning, but the I LOVE the silence. I do need to get better about taking time to “relax” and do something for me, outside of exercise.
