Hi Hayley! Thankyou for jumping into a Mamaview, please tell our readers a little about your background and how you came to be a Mama AND a biz owner!
Hello, I’m Hayley, mum of 2 boys (Thomas- 3 years old and Jacob- 7 months old) and wife to Andy. I live in Lincoln (East Midlands) where I run my business Baby & Me Lincoln. Baby & Me specialises in holistic antenatal and postnatal services based around massage therapy and antenatal education.
My past career was as a secondary school teacher but whilst on maternity leave I was unexpectedly made redundant. I decided to do something positive with my time and money that I could fit around my new baby and at the time I was attending baby massage classes with Thomas. I have always been a massage junkie and loved the classes so much, we both benefited enormously from them so I decided to retrain in this area and teach other mums the power of baby massage.
As time went on I wanted to expand my skill base as I have always loved learning, I started my massage therapy training in London and once I had passed my qualification I went on to study a wide range of advanced CPD massage courses. I wanted to specialise in pregnancy and postnatal massage as I want to help mums and mums to be in looking after their wellbeing, I also think that pregnancy is fascinating! As my skill base, experience and qualifications grow I continue to add new services to my business. On my return from maternity leave this time around I am launching a postnatal course for new mums and a massage for labour workshop in which your birth partner will learn a range of techniques to assist you in your labour and birth. I am excited about my business for 2018 and have lots of ideas to work on this year!
What advice would you give to your 21 year old self?
I would say to always do what you love and love what you do.
Can you give us 3 tips for juggling motherhood, life and business?
Be super organised, write important things down as if your anything like me you will forget it quickly with the amount of ‘stuff’ going through your head, make sure you are present in your family life even when your to do list is longer than your arm ensure you enjoy time with your family (I’m sure that’s a reason you chose to be a WAHM).
Tell us something no one ever warned you about being a work at home mama!
The days are long! You have to find time when your kids are not around to get your work for your business done this often means through nap times and once in bed so be prepared for the long days! (it is worth it though, I wouldn’t have it any other way!)
What is the best thing about being a WAHM?
Spending time with my boys and taking them to fun groups, going to places with them when it’s a weekday and it not being busy as everyone is at work/school, being able to have more freedom and flexibility in our days and time together as I set my own working hours.
Can you discuss something you are working on right now to improve your work/life balance?
Last year I made a resolution to always include some elements of ‘me time’ into my week to maintain my sanity in a busy life. I often schedule a massage, take a bath with NO KIDS allowed in the bathroom with me for a whole hour! Take a walk and enjoy the peace and quiet etc. I am continuing to work on this in 2018.
The best advice anyone ever gave you?
To work hard and then you can play hard!
What WAHM has inspired you lately?
Leona and Estelle from MIBA along with many of the lovely ladies within the group.
What are you reading right now?
Mumpreneur on fire!
How do you practice regular self care?
I enjoy a regular massage appointment and a weekly yoga class.
